Atrium Edmonton Review
The family had gathered from around the globe for a few precious weeks together at home in Edmonton. At the end of the summer as the youngest packed her bags to return to college, she asked that we all go out together for breakfast as a last hurrah before we scattered.
We settled on the Atrium at the Radisson on Gateway Blvd as it offered a buffet and was close to the work and shopping everyone had to do after breakfast.
A water fountain gently sprays water upward in the open atrium area providing an interesting and calming seating area. Several floors of rooms open out into hallways arranged in a rectangle above the spacious atrium. Foliage, plus the gentle background music and the sound of the fountain, help mask the noise of such a spacious area.
We were promptly greeted and seated in comfortable chairs at a large table. Several hotel patrons were dining as well as some groups of business people.
Our family included three generations and we all found the Atrium a nice place to share a meal. You can order from the menu but we all selected the buffet.
The weekday buffet included fairly standard buffet fare all well-presented. Hot dishes included scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, hash browns, pancakes, and steel cut oatmeal. The hot foods were average in temperature and slightly above average in taste. Ketchup, brown sugar, and maple-flavoured syrup accompanied the hot dishes.
Available bakery choices were mini Danishes, thick-sliced wheat and white breads (and a toaster to toast it,) muffins and mini croissants. We saw cream cheese on the serving table along with peanut butter, jams, and butter, but we did not see bagels.
The fruit and yogurt table had some popular choices. Whole fresh plums, apples and oranges plus cut fresh fruit - pineapple, grapefruit and oranges - appealed to us all. Our group tried several flavours of yogurt and were not overly impressed as this brand seemed bitter. We were, however, all impressed with the mini smoothies and mini muesli yogurt cups (with yogurt, muesli and dried fruit.) Very tasty and a nice addition to the buffet.
A nice selection of cold cereals was also available, though we did not try any of them.
Juice and hot beverages are included in the price. The juice selection included apple, orange, grapefruit, cranberry and tomato. Because juice is not on the buffet tables we had to ask the server for it specifically, and our waitress brought us each large glasses of our choice of juice.
Coffee drinkers among us liked the coffee and the tea drinkers were impressed with the variety and quality of tea offered.
The service was very attentive and pleasant.
A menu board in the atrium advertised the Sunday Brunch. It looked very, very good.
We would all go back to the Atrium Edmonton. The food is slightly above average, but the service and setting are great. We thoroughly enjoyed our last hurrah family breakfast of the summer!
