Edmonton Legislative Grounds

The Edmonton Legislative Grounds is a beautiful vast green space full of many different things to enjoy.

Situated against the backdrop of the Alberta Legislature Building, the grounds surrounding this important spot are kept in immaculate condition. There are walking and bike trails throughout the grounds and plenty of wide open, lush green lawn where you can enjoy a picnic or toss a frisbee.

Go Again? For sure! We had only time for a picnic when we went - but I'd love to explore the trails and enjoy some of the seasonal activities on the Alberta Legislative Grounds.

Access: Close, easy access to bus stations and the LRT.

Our Edmonton Legislative Grounds Visit

It was a beautiful day - late in the fall - and when you're in Alberta - you can't take those kind of days for granted!

So together with some friends we decided to make our first trip to the Alberta Legislative Grounds - but I don't think it will be our last!

We enjoyed our first ride on the LRT and since that was the kids first time to ride a train - I think it was one of the highlights of their day.

After getting off the LRT, we meandered around the Visitor's Centre, enjoying the various pictures and displays and learning a little bit more about Alberta. There is even a lego model of the Edmonton Legislature Building - complete with a policeman getting after some kids for riding their skateboards on the front steps!

We then ventured outside into the beautiful fall day - I love those days where the temperature outside is just about the same as it is inside - add a little sunshine and a slight breeze - and that's the weather we were enjoying!

We walked around the Legislative Buildings enjoying the beautiful architecture.

The fountains and waiting pool had been drained for the winter and a school art class was using it as a place to sit and draw. It was fun to watch the little people sit there intently gazing at the big building and then carefully try to replicate on paper what they were seeing.

We walked down to the Edmonton Legislative Grounds down below and sat in the wide green space to enjoy a picnic.

After a delicious lunch - only made better because it was enjoyed outside - we relaxed while the kids ran and played ball in the wide open field.

Definitely a wonderful time at the Alberta Legislature Grounds - but I'd love to come back in the Winter and see the ice sculptures and Christmas lights...and of course, we'll also have to come back in the summer and check out the wading pool and...well...we'll just be paying this beautiful spot another visit!
