Good Earth Cafe (Market At Summerside) on Urbanspoon

Good Earth Edmonton Review

good earth cafe Edmonton

When we lived in Calgary I used to frequent the Good Earth Cafe near our home. They sold fresh food, interesting beverages and the most amazing home-baked scones.

In Edmonton it's called The Good Earth Coffeehouse and Bakery - same company, same type of decor, and yes, same amazing scones.

My daughter and I enjoyed an afternoon break at Good Earth in Summerside. The workers were friendly and answered my many questions patiently.

Good Earth Atmosphere

There's a small outside patio where several customers were enjoying a sunny afternoon. The inside seats a couple of dozen people in several cozy conversation areas.

We observed couples, friends, and singles enjoying a mid-afternoon break. One gent took advantage of the free wifi while sipping his coffee.

Good Earth Edmonton Menu

White Chocolate Berry scones call to me when I'm at Good Earth, and today I obediently answered.

Like all of the baked good at Good Earth, the scones are large. The bready portion of the recipe is a little drier than some scones, but the white chocolate chunks, berries, and sliced almonds fill the scone nicely.

They are incredible fresh from the oven when the white chocolate is melted and oozing. My icy Strawberry frap was tasty, but I would have preferred actual strawberries blended into the beverage.

My daughter ordered a Maui Mocha frappuccino and a Seed Roll.

The whole wheat sweet roll was full of (and topped with) seeds - poppy seeds, sunflower seeds, and flax seeds were obvious. There may have been others, but my daughter was too busy savoring this "amazing" roll to notice. The sticky sweet glaze offset the seeds nicely.

Her frap was well blended with coffee grounds, and nutty flavor topped with chocolate drizzled whipped cream.

They also sell Spinach, Bacon and Cheddar and Cranberry Trail Mix scones which look delicious. The scones are baked fresh throughout the day as are the extra large cookies (Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter and Ginger Chew) and ample muffins (Orange Poppyseed, Pumpkin, and Very Berry Bran.) Various cakes, squares, bars and loafs round out the sweets selection.

Each day fresh soups, salads, hot dishes and baked goods are made onsite.

Signature dishes include homemade mac and cheese, fresh fruit salad, and daily hot soups.

One can also select the hot dish of the day (varies,) Panini sandwiches such as TBA - Turkey, Bacon and Avocado, You Devil - Egg Salad or Mediterranean Veggie, or a choice of fresh daily salads. Vegetarian soups and salads are also available.

Good Earth Edmonton sells whole bean or ground to order coffee. They are big on participating in Fair Trade Rain Forest Alliance Certified coffees. Several blends of Americano and Espresso are available daily.

Tea lovers can choose from a variety of Mighty Leaf Tea brand teas.

Summer time cold beverages such as granitas and frappuccinos plus unusual bottled selections are also offered.

Good Earth Philosophy

Good Earth bills the company as 'green.' They offer napkins made from recycled paper, compostable cups, and proudly advertise that their cafes are 100% wind powered.

The tabletop ads remind customers of the company focus with '20 years of green' boldly printed at the top of the page.

They also brand themselves with the phrase 'World of Good.'

This is a pleasant place to stop for a wholesome light meal, a quick bite, a cuppa, or a treat. The food is better than most coffee places and the portions are generous. (You can check nutritional information online which is a plus.)

They offer free samples and work at cultivating return customers. Give them a try. I think you'll be glad you did.
