Harvest Room Edmonton ReviewThe Harvest Room restaurant at the Fairmont MacDonald Hotel is an elegant, yet comfortable place to dine in downtown Edmonton. The Harvest Room Edmonton re-opened in October 2011 after extensive renovations and repairs to the building. The restaurant overlooks the North Saskatchewan River valley. If nothing else, come for the ambiance and the wonderful view. Add gently swirling snow on a wintery evening and voila! A fairy tale evening is born.
![]() The Harvest Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Patrons are asked to follow the "smart-casual to semi-formal" dress code. Attention to detail makes this dining experience so memorable. We arrived for an early dinner and were warmly greeted by the Harvest Room host. Before placing the napkins on our laps, our host noted that we all wore dark colors so he smoothly replaced the white cloth napkins with dark ones, "to avoid leaving lint on your clothing." Much appreciated! Harvest Room Edmonton Menu We started the evening with juices and water, followed by a cup of soup. The Chef's signature Seafood Chowder was full of wonderfully fresh tasting seafood and vegetables. Smoked cod, mussels and shrimp served in a creamy base with potatoes and corn and, I believe, onions and a twinge of sherry. Very robust, and quite delicious. Others tried the Mushroom Bisque and the Acorn Squash and Sage Veloute. Raves all around for the soup appetizers!
![]() The Harvest Room menu selection focuses on local, organic, and sustainable foods, including some 100-mile selections where all of the ingredients come from within 100 miles of Edmonton. Two of us selected the Organic "Sunworks Farm Chicken Roulade," a 100-mile selection. The chicken is pressed around a delicious sage stuffing and served with oyster mushrooms, glazed turnips and a cider vinegar jus. A marvelous melding of flavours! My husband tried the Lobster Ravioli, a lobster tail poached in butter served with coarsely chopped tomatoes, watercress, fava beans and warm tarragon vinaigrette. He said everything was good, but he did not care for the flavor of the vinaigrette. Our friend ordered the Organic "Diamond Willow" Alberta Beef Tenderloin, another 100-mile choice. These braised beef short ribs came with a potato puree, cauliflower gratin, and spinach, all served with a Bearnaise sauce. Delicious! We topped off the meal with shared desserts and hot beverages. A Sticky Toffee Pudding and Chocolate Trio were enjoyed by all. Tea Time Upon completion of the renovations, the Harvest Room Edmonton has reinstated the Royal Afternoon Tea which includes a tour of the grand hotel. Check the website for special holiday menus. Tea is served outdoors during summer months. I hear the gardens outside the dining room are beautiful. Brunches and Buffets Lavish Sunday and holiday brunches and buffets are also available. By all means, take a look around the MacDonald while you are there. Fantastic architecture, elegant yet welcoming décor, and professional, attentive staff make this a special destination. Wedgewood Room Don't miss the Wedgewood room, designed in the blue and white with amazing bas relief Wedgewood-style plaster designs throughout the room, including the ceiling.

![]() No wonder this room is booked for weddings, anniversaries, graduations and other events! The night we dined there, the hotel was resplendent with beautiful Christmas decorations, including a model train high in the lobby, and a large brightly decorated lobby tree. Am I planning to return? Absolutely! I'm looking really forward to afternoon tea at the Fairmont MacDonald. Can't wait!
