Outback Steakhouse Edmonton Review
When we first moved to Edmonton a friend took us to Outback for lunch. I signed up for the free Outback Boomerang Club which offers members specials by e-mail and gives you points for each purchase, culminating in an Outback gift card after you accumulate enough points.
The e-mail offers are sent regularly. I printed one that gave me a free lunch meal - no strings attached - and my husband and I stopped by to enjoy a lunch date on a Saturday afternoon.
We arrived at the South location around noon. A large family group was seated at table near the entrance. One or two singles were dining when we arrived. Several other couples wandered in while we were eating. We were greeted promptly and offered our choice of booth or table.
The background music was exceptionally loud when we arrived. We politely asked if it could be turned down. The manager cheerfully agreed to do so, but forgot. After one gentle reminder the music was lowered to a level allowing better conversation at the table.
Outback Steakhouse Edmonton Menu
Our waitress brought us beverages and some delicious Bushman's Bread, a small rye and molasses loaf freshly heated and served on a wooden plank with a side of whipped butter.
Though the bread is not made on site, it is served warm and tastes like it comes straight from the oven with a crispy outside and soft inside. Very tasty!
Hubby selected the Grilled Chicken and Swiss sandwich.
The grilled chicken breast was served on a dense, sourdough-like light rye bun. This sandwich was definitely above average! Served with a cup of beef barley soup and a side of steamed veggies (fresh carrots, broccoli and snap peas,) the meal was delicious and nutritious.
I opted for the Tuscan Smothered Chicken.
The spiced, grilled chicken breast was done right, properly grilled but not too dry. The chicken was topped with a sauce containing nuances of white wine, subtle spices and green onions with a finishing flourish of sun dried tomatoes, all served over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes. Very flavorful!
Lunch at outback is served with a cup of soup and the Bushman's bread. I enjoyed the baked potato soup and steamed veggies with my entree.
We were tempted to order the signature Bloomin' Onion appetizer, but decided to wait until we were dining with a bigger group. If you like onions and onion rings, you need to try the Bloomin' Onion at least once. It's crispy on the outside and each "blossom" is sweet and moist on the inside. The dipping sauce is slightly spicy and flavorful.
Maybe next time...
