Prairie Gardens Edmonton Review
The Prairie Adventure Farm is a working 35 acre family farm. But it is much more than simply a farm.
First homesteaded in 1898, Prairie Greenhouses and Gardens is currently an award-winning cultural and educational destination near Edmonton with something to offer for families, schools, groups, and the corporate sector.
While one can learn about agriculture, crops, and farming, the Prairie Gardens is not simply a farm.
Come enjoy the fresh air, interact with the animal at the petting farm, admire the peacocks, chat with a parrot, watch the hens and chicks or discover the bunnies while wandering around the farm.
Then hop on a farm wagon for an informative 15 minute trip around the property where you can learn a few facts about the history of the farm, gather a few agricultural tidbits, and garner information on some of the special events hosted by Prairie Adventure Farm each year.
The Prairie Gardens and Adventure Farm is known for its annual corn maze. The Great Prairie Corn Maze boasts over 5 km of twisting, winding trails with the theme changing each year.
A smaller maze is available for kids (or the directionally challenged) and a straw bale maze gives toddlers a fun maze that suits the wee ones!
To mix it up a bit, Flashlight Maze Adventures offer an after dark maze experience in the large maze.
Search out the greenhouses to speak with growers or buy plants, trees, flowers or herbs. For an additional fee you can book a guided tour through the gardens.
In the late summer and fall you can pick produce (call for current pricing) at the Gardens' u-pick fields.
Strawberries are usually available beginning in July followed by peas, baby potatoes and greens and later by beans, corn, squash, gourds, and a wide variety of pumpkins. Phone ahead for availability and u-pick hours and fees.
Check out the Klondike ghost town, Wild West Shootin' Gallery, Prairie Garden Express trackless train, mini tractor ride, or Prospector's Cabin and Lost Lemon Mine Gem Sluice. Additional fees apply to some activities.
Programs and Festivals
Festivals are a big draw at the Farm on long weekends and especially throughout October. Other popular features may include special bookings or additional fees:
Buildings and Concessions
Walk over to Grandma's Fudgery, the Ice Cream Stoop, or the Farm Kitchen (special hours only) for a snack or light meal. Make sure to stop by the gift shop on the way out for a souvenir of your visit.
